This great chess fabric was another find from the wonderful Fabric Cave. As is often the case with fabric from there, this was only a small piece – something like 90cmx115cm. In an ideal world I’d have been able to centre the print better, but you have to do the best you can with what you’ve got with these small pieces.

The yellow trim fabric was also from the Fabric Cave. It’s heavier than the chess fabric, so the bottom band is a little stiffer than I’d like. Hopefully it will soften up a bit after a few washes.

Pattern is McCalls 5659 – the same as my deer dress, I just shortened the pattern to top length.

Photos taken at the giant chess board in our local library, and as usual taken by pambox.

I didn’t, actually. It wasn’t until I was thinking of where to take photos of the finished project that I even remembered the library had the giant chess set!

Thanks! There’s a giant chess set in Hyde Park in the city too, but this is 5 minutes up the road so it won as a photo location!

Pambox is my friend/flatmate’s name on here. She got me started on this whole sewing thing!
