Cape on cape

The Office, Main...

Two coats presently worn as one. The short woolen cape goes on top of the green one as long as it is still cold here. I used the cape pattern from the jacket-cum-cape in burda 08/09, just widened the front panels by some inches. I would have let them overlap, but the fabric left didn’t allow for anything more and I think it’s fine after all. Most of my garments obey to circumstances in that way, it’s often quite helpful to make decisions.
For the green number I used some canvas I bought years ago – it was light grey originally but I decided to dye it – ‘Amazon’ if i remember right. Most of the seams are taped in light grey now, I might dye it again to have the same colour everywhere. I added a pleat at the rear of the pattern and changed a few little things here and there on the way, as you do.

I really, really like the jacket. The pleat in the back is super nice, and the hood/sleevelngth/cuffs makes me think of stylish 50’s and want to collect pictures of vintage clothes for future reference… It looks like a stroll in the country before a nice afternoon tea (and that’s very good)!

both garments are really elegant and functional.. Ah! the joys of layering things! I love that amazon green colour…. and yep adapting sewing to circumstances should, in theory, give me a sense of focus sewing-wise……darn, it’s cooooold today!
