Kuala Lumpur, Ma...

Decided to make a coat for my vacation in Kashmir. Have never made a coat before, ever! so i am quite happy for my first attempt at it. Though i think i may have to tweak the lining or the way i have attached the lining to the coat as the coat tends to sway to one side, when i move around! it was not so when i tried it on before lining it?! Any idea where i may have gone wrong?

Ever since i got the contributor’s copy of the Burdastyle Sewing Handbook (i had made a dress variation, LUXI_HERE, India) wanted to make this coat and viola at last it did make it out of the to-do list !

Material Notes

Thick Cotton, Lining-Velvet

Winter, Fall
Garment Type

Very nice job on the coat! The collar looks way better than it does on mine! Regarding the lining, it looks like it is pulling on the fashion fabric. An easy way to fix this is to hang it on a mannequin (if you have one!), a willing helper or on a hanger and see where the pulling is. You’ll have to then unpick that section and reattach it, providing there is enough seam allowance. It’s always a good idea to test the fit of the lining by basting/pinnning and then putting it on or on a mannequin to test the fit of the lining because it often will not pull when lying flat, but will on your body. You can easily adjust after that and then sew for good. Linings should always be a bit more generous than the fashion fabric coat to allow room for you to move. Really looks great on you!

Thanks for the tip on the lining. i will try to figure out . i need to find a helping hand who is patient enough, as i do not have a mannequin and i have to try it on self! I had left enough allowance in the lining, so hopefully i can fix it well.
