Burdastyle 12/2012 #139

South Perth, Aus...

I found this beautiful fabric and knew it had to become this Burdastyle jacket. I have been waiting a long time to find the right fabric to make this and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. The fabric frayed so I couldn’t do the exposed seams and raw edges. Instead I sewed normal seams and made the ribbon a real feature, adding more than originally intended. Otherwise I made a straight size 38 with no changes.

Very cute, I love the fabric and you did a lovely job on sewing it! One question, did you find the hood too big? I made a BurdaStyle sweat shirt and I found the hood to be so huge that it kept pulling the neck back and choking me. Was this a problem with your jacket? If not, I’m tempted to make it again using this pattern. Thanks! Kat

And hey, I just noticed you’re from South Perth! I’m a Perthite too :)

Hi Kat, I don’t find the hood too heavy at all. I usually wear the jacket zipped up to around mid-chest level and it’s fine. I could probably use a tiny bit more room across the shoulders.
Yay for us rare Perth sewers! Your photo looks familiar, have I seen you on the Perth Burdastyle page?
      Thanks for the comment.

Hiya! Thanks for the info. I think the problem with mine is that the hood is lined with the same fabric – making it a double layer = HEAVY! Looks like yours doesn’t have that problem. Yes, I go to some of the Perth BS meetups! Have you ever been?
