Burda Sleeveless Blouse Pattern 128

I wanted to give myself a small project to get back into some sewing and I had long considered making this burda pattern. It is a very simple design. The pleats in the shoulders don’t really drape as much as the drawing indicates. Maybe try a softer fabric. Either way, they gave the shirt a certain quirk.

I generally don’t make clothing without some tailoring because I’m quite small. I noticed in other photos that the design had a lot of fabric around the waist, so I added some darts in the front to give it a bit of shape.

The shirt is most suited to being tucked into jeans or a skirt, it’s very long otherwise. I added some side splits should I wear the shirt out, otherwise it probably wont fit over my hips. You could try shortening it.

The instructions in this pattern are very vague, then again it’s not an expensive pattern. I would recommend pinning first just to check you’re on the right path because the collar is a bit tricky and if you’re serging the seams, your best to make sure you do them at the right stage.

All up, a good exercise before getting onto something more tricky! I do have one issue, of my own creation… I’m unable to remove the dressmakers carbon. I’ve washed the shirt a couple of times and the markings are still there. Unfortunately, I used RED dressmakers carbon. Any hot tips?

Material Notes

Small poker-dot, cream and black poly cotton with black floweret buttons.

Thanks for all the comments. Regarding the darts, I found this good example after I finished my top. http://bernieandi.wordpress.com/2012/08/24/completed-project-burda-style-magazine-pleated-top-issue-92011-style-128/ She takes in more of the fabric and it works well. :-)

I like your addition of the darts. This pattern is on my ‘like, but wouldn’t suit me’ list. I’d decided against adding darts, but yours have given me ideas!

Like the neckline…had this in mind to make to wear to work but couldn’t find the right fabric. Seeing yours I will do it in polka dots. Thanks for the inspiration
