Burda 116 dress

This is the dress I’ve been wanting to sew for some time now…well, since I saw it in the magazine basically…It is just perfect, has a slightly oldfashioned feel to it, and I found this color I knew would be perfect. It’s quite simple to make, I could have done some thing diferently, but all in all I’m pleased with how it turned out.

Hello, I made this for Halloween: I made it in red duchesse as a Marie Antoinette costume. But I left out the sleeves cause I simply could not figure out how the magazine wanted me to place them. Can you explain? I want to make the dress again to wear to work and need help :(

Hey! I haven’t read the instructions at all, cause it would take to much time for me to translate them, so I improvised. Hm…I’ll try to explain, it’s complicated :) For one sleeve I cut out two parts. Sew the first layer inside the armhole, and the other one on top. Then turn them around.

I’m making this dress to get married in, minus the exposed zip. It’s nice to see a finished version other than the muslin I made of the top before I dive in. Did you have any fit issues or major difficulties? I see the bodice is a bit loose on you. What size does Burda say you are and what size did you use?

Yes it is, in the sholders. :) I made it in size 36, becouse I always make it in 36, so I did’t even look at the measurements in the manual. Oh well, I plan to make another one but shorter so I’ll be more carefull next time around. :)
It’s quite simple, the only problem for me were the sleeves that were a little bit tricky, but all in all you shouldn’t have any major problems. I’m looking forward to seeing your wedding dress with this pattern, I’m sure it will work perfectly :)

Thank you very much! It’s some kind of a cotton fabric, not quite sure…i had it at home, so thought to put a use to it. :)
