Boho Maxi Dress – Burdastyle 1//2010 #131

I found a swath of shiny green fabric in the bargain bin at the sewing store, enough to make this maxi; didn’t realize it was labelled costume material till I got home, the sheen emphasizes all body area/s lol. I found the material a little slippery to sew with, and it frays easily, had trouble with making the placket neat; and the cuffs I had to google how to do lol. No close up shots of the imperfections today haha. I even ironed the wrong side of the interfacing leaving sticky residue over it. I didn’t hand-stitch the hem, just did a good ol’ quick straight stitch double fold over lol. I used my fav new treatment for the inside seams: where each seam is zig-zagged twice, and for the second time they’re rolled over.
Location: Apia

Material Notes

woven satin-polyester costume fabric with green flame/swirly print, 12x blue sew-on ‘crystal’ gems, iron-on interfacing, 3x snap buttons, 2x blue 70s shank buttons.

my word the heat on my little vacay in beautiful samoa was so searing, I sweated buckets before I got my arms thru the holes lol. Its the wrong fabric for summer, being a synthetic; a breathable natural material like linen or cotton would make the diff, as the one I’ve used is so unsuitable for hot climates. You can see my lack of climatization in my facial expressions lol. But its defo fine for nz! Now I have a cold and will sleep for the next few days lolz xx

How did you manage to find a fabric with almost the same colors with the original model? It looks fabulous on you as you don’t have any imperfections to be highlighted by the unforgiving fabric!

thanks so much dear liliv! I stumbled upon this fabric by chance, the shade of green is very similar I must say, & yes it turned out to be rather unforgiving indeed lol. haha my dress is but an imitation of the original… the luxurious burnout velvet they’ve used in the original model would defo go down a treat with me lol! xx
