Blue Plaid with Microsuede Yoke Skirt

Added Mar 6, 2008

by jj1

Livingston, New ...

Plain old yoke skirt. I had to make
an uneven yoke so that the opening
would be wide enough to put on-take off.

Adding leather suede trim and pocket flap
(no pocket-too lazy to do it) for fun, also the pocket flap helps balance the uneven yoke.

The yoke parts cut on staight grain, interfaced and lined with cotton to ensure
the fit and comfort. Yoke’s pattern was
trim on the sides about 1.5 cm each to ensure the fit as well.

The plaid skirt f&b cut on bias. Hem are frayed with seam ripper and sewn 2 stitched

lines to stop the frayness in the future.

Note: Microsuede really looks like real thing
and also acts as the real leather in term of
stretchness, once stretched, you can’t take
it back so handle with care.

Material Notes

Blue Plaid
Microsuede Duvet Cover
Suede trim (real leather)
lining fabric, cotton (behide yoke, polyester-
skirt part)

    Everyone, again thank you!

Brocadegoddess, it’s so true about the yoke, it didn’t bug me

until I sew and see them in the photo. I didn’t try to match up the plaids though. I had forgot to draw the matching line on the pattern pieces so I just winked it when I cut the fabric and prayed but it didn’t really work.

This is really attractive looking – and you did a great job matching up the plaids. It’s so nice to see people put in that kind of care and effort.

The only thing that is bugging me about it is the unmatched front and back yoke pieces at the left-hand side seam. I like the idea of the uneveness, but it looks a little off because of the piping at the yoke bottom edges. It looks unresolved. I love the piping, it looks great, I think maybe you just should have continued it up the side of the yoke to meet the piping of the back yoke piece. That way the whole yoke would be cleanly and consistently outlined. It would look more like an intentional design feature.

But that’s a small detail. It looks great, your construction is impeccable and the colour palate is really sophisticated!

I love this one, the use of textures in the fabrics is great, also the yoke looks like it would make the skirt flattering to all sizes. You are very talented. look forward to your next creation.
