Description

I bought a vintage Butterick #3721 pattern last summer and completely forgot about it. It really is the most adorable little mod pattern with a flower petal collar.

I made a lot of modifications to the original pattern to better fit my shape, as well as turn it from a long sleeve dress into a short sleeve blouse. I used a soft grey jersey knit fabric for the blouse and some leftover soft stretchy material from when I hemmed an old 1970s lounge dress for the collar. I like the contrast.

I’m eventually going to make a dress version of this blouse :)

I was thinking “1920s”: I’ve always liked those ‘office dresses’ with assorted white collars that you see in the silent films (but practically nowhere in fashion history! try the Early Office Museum women typing up transcription Victory Life Insurance offices (colourised postcard))

But I see from the pattern that it’s actually far more 1960s….

yes, the collar does have a 1920s essence to it! i adore those silent film dresses to no end. interesting collars were definitely the rage. i’ve been lucky enough to actually get my hands on some 1920s dresses and the collars are like nothing i’ve ever seen before.
