Bleached strapless denim dress and bolero jacket.

I am loving the denim revival! I had a length of stretch denim which was a good weight, solid even shade, but crying out for something different to be done with it. The dress and jacket are both my original designs. The dress has a built-in long line, boned and underwired strapless bra (my own design) which holds the dress up, supports the bust and nips in the waist. It is seamed using traditional jeans seams, but instead of using a contrasting heavyweight thread, I used a toning thread as I wanted the bleached design to be the point of focus. The bolero jacket has 3/4 sleeves, a stand up collar with an appliqued motif and unfinished hems and collar edges.

I took a test piece of fabric and mixed various concentrations of household bleach and water to see which would bleach the fabric without destroying it. I constructed the dress and jacket first then, I made a stencil of my original design and then stenciled the design onto the garments with the bleach solution. I left the bleach on for about 15 mins and then I put the garments in the washing machine and washed and dried them as normal.

The bleach did bleed beyond the areas of the stencil, but the effect I think, is pleasing to the eye. What do you guys think?

This is an outfit that can be casual or dressed up for a night’s clubbing. It is so comfortable to wear and I do not have to worry about the dress and strappless bra doing their own thing!

I am very keen to hear what you guys out there think about any of my projects.

Thanks in advance

Very interesting print! I had no idea this was denim until I read the description. Do you know what concentration you ended up using?
