Description

I made this dress for a black tie event my bf and I attended. It’s a fairly simple black one shouldered sheath dress, with an added strap that goes diagonally across the front to meet the shoulder strap.

It’s made from my favorite stretchy soft and stable fabric – it’s a cotton/viscose/spandex blend, and it’s fantastic! One can never have too many LBDs :)

Apologies the photos aren’t the best – my camera ran out of battery as we were leaving my house!

I created the pattern myself. It’s actually a hybrid of the pattern for my sweetheart dress here: http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/my-sheer-sweeheart-dress

Then, I added the shoulder extension, and drafted the diagonal strap – which is sewn into the side seam of the dress at the bottom, and the seam at the top of the shoulder. It’s also cut on the bias, as it’s sewn in quite tightly to ensure it doesn’t fall away from the body as I move.

The pattern for the dress is basically a princess-seamed dress front and back. It doesn’t have a zip, as the fabric has some stretch, and it easily slips over the head!
