BERNINA Halloween 2011 - Gnomeo & Juliet

Added Oct 19, 2011

by Emily Wilcock

I made these for a client who wanted not just gnome costumes, but a Gnomeo and Juliet.
For Gnomeo I started with McCall’s pattern 4291, then deepened the v, added a collar and took out the sleeves. The belt is made from vinyl. For the ‘G’ I painted some cream vinyl with gold paint, then cut out the G. I also added a few layers of mustard felt underneath to give it some thickness. Then I attached it to the belt which snaps together in the back.
For Juliet I started with McCall’s 3949. First, I changed the collar shape so it wasn’t as rounded. Then I created a faux vest using the same pieces as the top just cutting the neck line deeper. I added the eyelets and gold cording before I sewed it to the top. Then I made the apron (I just made a basic apron with rounded corners) and a full pettiskirt to go underneath and fluff it out. The hats are made from felt and when you stuff some grocery bags in them, they stand up and curve slightly forward!

Material Notes

I used mostly cotton except the vinyl belt and the felt hats.
