Description

The whole concept of making a coat seems easy. Almost too good to be true. Cut it out, make an outer layer from fabric and make an inner layer from lining. Join the two together and by the miracle that is sewing, and the mystery that is turning it the right way out, you have the finished article.
I’ve called this my apprentice brocade coat as really this is my first coat and therefore apprentice piece. It took three goes to get the hem part done as you first need to understand the mystery and miracle of leaving the lining and coat at different lengths to allow for movement.
I got three unprovoked compliments whilst wearing this today! Clearly the untrained eye does not see the detail of a coat that does not actually fit the wearer, sleeves that are at least 5cm too short and buttonholes that have been made but not opened and are for buttons that are not even there. All that said- I will definitely be doing this again. It’s too good to miss once the mystery has been revealed.

Material Notes

Brocade with lovely red flowers and awesome gold dots. This coat just needs fur cuffs and a cold dry spell.

Its a really nice looking coat. I like the lining too, completely different from the outside fabric but still works. Suits you.
