Ankara Wax a-line shift dress

Well, Ington., N...

I made Short A-Line Dress 03/2016 #106 with some African fabric. As drafted it was too long for me (I’m 154 cm tall) so I cut about 6 cms off.
It’s comfortable and cute! This is basically a wearable toile, and my plan is to do it in silk next.
Please ignore my extremely messy studio!

Material Notes

Ankara African wax print cotton

I know! i saw your make and loved it (along with all your other fabulous Ankara ensembles!) So inspiring! I wish I could have done something fancy with the sleeves and colour-blocking like you did, but this was basically a toile using cheap Chinese Ankara (https://www.aliexpress.com/store/505008?spm=2114.10010108.100005.1.Rl0oUc) cotton to test the fit before I cut up some ikat silk I have in mind for it! thanks :)

Well the fit looks fab on you so it will be amazing in silk. I absolutely love ankara as it’s so funky! I’m very lucky as I can get it fairly cheaply here in Rwanda. Can’t wait to see your silk one!

Lovely dress! And funnily enough I made this exact same dress in Ankara/Kitenge too :) (I also shortened it as it felt far too long. Much prefer if the shorter length).
