Afternoon tea blouse and skirt set

This two piece can be found on page 33 of Burda 10/2010. I wanted to try a different colour fabric. It is still wool fabric, therefore a bit itchy when worn! It is great though in those windy, rainy British days. I worn this on St Patrick’s day and everybody was so impressed.
One small note, I could not find a green or blue petersham or grossgrain ribbon at the time, and I did not look very far. Decided to put ribbon instead, and it was a big mistake. I might replace that later. If you decide to make this, instead of creasing the front part, can I suggest organised pleats? They would look a lot nicer.
The set is wearable, although it was a learning project for me, and I would loads of things differently.

Material Notes

wide brushed wool

All I can say is “wow”! That print is so eye-catching, and it’s the perfect thing for the design!

That’s funny: We both posted the same project today! :-)) Love yours. It is totally different from mine, but much more in line with the topic. (I used linen fabric instead of wool.) It is a great pattern, don’t you think so? May be I make it again for fall using silk for the blouse and wool for the skirt… the fabrics are already in my stash. Ahhh… I was also thinking about pleats instead of gathering, because I have not a flat belly. ;-)

It is not my favourite project. I like the blouse, but I would choose something different for the skirt. It just doesn’t look right. The skirt needs finishing. I might try this again, I needed some practice at the time. Another thing is the tie, it is supposed to be left unfinished. I used clear nail polish all alongside the edge line, to prevent a disaster. The wool I used was really frail, falling apart under your fingers.

Looks great! I’ve bought some wool fabric for the shirt and skirt, but didn’t get to make it yet. well…. maybe next winter
