A Very Burgundy Esther

Added Feb 22, 2010

I’ve fallen in love with burdastyle’s Esther cardigan and made two last week in a mad Esther-frenzy (I will post my second one shortly; a snow blizzard interrupted our photo shoot!). It’s an incredibly satisfying (read: easy and fun) project — it only took me about 2 hours total and there it was, a lovely, cozy cardigan that I can’t stop wearing. I mixed knit (the striped part) and woven (the collar) and was scared to do so having had bad experiences in the past, but it seems the experiment came off just fine and Esther is good for mixing it up.

Material Notes

Knit (striped cotton fabric and a felt-like fabric for the cuffs) and a wool-blend in burgundy/white.

Garment Type
Blends, Knits/Jersey

How you have the smart sense! The combination of different cloths is very hot. I did not hit on such a method. It is lovely so much.

Thank you for the comment on my” Esther ”.

your photos are exquisite and the snow adds such a special touch!! bravo!!! oh, i’ve had esther on the list for a while!! i could make a billion of them. yours is inspiring me to get going on it again. i’m tempted to use a wool jersey fabric i have in the stash for teh main body and arms and then knit a woll rib out of chunky yarn to use as the trim/collar fabric. however, considering my skill level, i better get the muslin out and do a sample first.

Thanks so much for the compliments!! I do think a knitted trim/collar with wool jersey for the body would be incredible — it would make a very original and cozy cardigan!

Nice! The woven/kint mash-up lends a really great sculptural quality to the sweater. I’ve been thinking of making one out of an old, oversized tee-shirt… but now I’m going to consider incorporating a sturdier fabric.

ps: That door is an awesome color green. <3
