Description

These two garments were the result of my A Level Textiles project based on the principles of ethical and eco-friendly design, using as little natural resources as possible and minimising both wastage and environmental pollution. The dress was inspired by costume from the 1920s. The wool yarn was space-dyed using natural dyes and this is what created the overall pattern. I drafted all my own patterns from basic blocks and alterations.

Material Notes

I used hemp/silk mix satin fabric for the dress courtesy of Hemp Fabric UK, based in Devon. I dyed this with woad powder and onion skins to get blue and gold colours respectively. I also dyed some pure wool chunky yarn in this way, and using 11mm needles to get a fairly loose knitted fabric. The top is essentially two oblongs, sewn up on the sides.
