A drop of British elegance

Havlickuv Brod, ...

I wanted something “British” and original. I made this jacket with the use of a pattern from Burda 10/2003. I altered the pattern so that the front edges overlap and I made the lapels and the collar a lot bigger (I am obsessed with big lapels :-)). I added a wool embroidery. The fabric was hard to draw on, so I made the embroidery without an outline – maybe I could call it “freeform embroidery”. It is inspired by Moravian folklore (Moravia – the eastern part of the Czech Republic).

The skirt is cut on the bias. It is an old Burda magazine pattern without darts (the front piece and the back piece are identical) and I love it – I have already made several skirts with it.

Material Notes

Jacket: grey wool tweed

Skirt: plaid wool fabric

Garment Type
Bohemian, Classic, Ethnic, Romantic, Victorian

The stripes on the side seams are matched so perfectly! I go a little gaga for matched stripes :D

Classy! The embroidery makes a very nice jacket into a wonderful jacket. I love the skirt most of all, elegant but simple.
