a dirndl for Hamburg

Winsen (Luhe) ...

Normaly the south of Germany wears these dresses. Here in the north nearly nobody does. But we were invited to an “Oktoberfest” in Hamburg and we have the order to come in “Wies’n” outfit. I don’t want to wear a dress were I feel to dress up. So I made a St. Pauli of Hamburg dirndl. The main colour of that area is brown together with a little red and white. So it is.

Material Notes

dress: cotton silk -
apron: taffeta, and a sewed skyline of Hamburg –
eyelets with Swarowski stones –
satinribbon -
blouse – viscose jersey -
collar – crown cap of a beer of Hamburg called ASTRA

Garment Type
Cotton, Eyelet, Knits/Jersey, Satin, Silk, Taffeta

So lovely! I really like the dress, and the skyline on the apron is a fun detail! I have been looking for something similar, did you use a pattern for this?

A pattern for the skyline? I googled it, but there were not all the buildings which I want to have, only a small part. So I looked for pictures of the buildings I want to use and drawed the rest of the skyline myself. My best building is the "Köhlbrandt"bridge in the habour of Hamburg. This I took from a photo.
