7th Birthday Dress

Added Oct 25, 2010

by morphomixstress

Sacramento, Cali...

I found some discount fabric and this on sale pattern, M6023. The view I chose offered a bubble hem but when we got to that phase realized that it was much too short. So, instead, we went with the typical flaired hem. This worked out just ok. I say that because the fabric was not self healing and didn’t recover well from the lines of basting stitch and extreme gathering. So, to avoid adding even more pin marks I decided to add the red bias tape and then fold over and slip stitch that. It was pretty wonky, but turned down you could barely tell and it offered a nice drape.

With sleeveless dresses I always tend to want to add some undershirt underneath to avoid showing all my baby’s goodies. I didn’t want to have to do that so I made what can be considered a pretty exact size. Afterall, it was just for this birthday. I was able to convince her to hand it over to one of her smaller cousins attending the party. She did because she trusts that there will be another dress turn out soon :).

That colour is SO good on her that you must get more of the fabric and make her something with growing room!

Lovely dress, very cute kid. :)

LOL! Her answer will be “no, I need my status for the playground.” We fight every morning over what she will wear. And they are a uniform school.

Wow, what a stylish kid! I remember the feeling of pride I had wearing things made especially for me by my mom. Well done.

Thank you. I think a little her lives in my sewing machine because the machine has TOTALLY forgotten about mommy. But I don’t care, lol!

Thank you. I’m going to do it next summer in linen with the bubble hem and the proper length.

LOL! I don’t remember being this into fashion either. But I did play with dolls. Now I have a living doll and maybe this is how she developed the personality.

I think I accidently marked this comment as inappropriate. Sorry. I meant to say thank you! The next one will definately fall in this color family.

Awww the dress and the diva are so cute. I love the color and boots! My daughter agrees to giving clothes away too. She knows more will have to come. Boy, do they learn fast!

LOL. She insisted on wearing her Kenneth Cole boots! There was hardly a fight at all when removing the dress from her to hand it over.
