50's Party Dress

Added Dec 11, 2012

by Dume

Cape Town, South...

This dress really came out very well in the end. Considering the limited time-frame, cut-corners and general slacking that went on.

I had a 50’s themed end-of-year party this past weekend, and was completely lost for inspiration, until Burdastyle posted this dress, I think about a week and a bit ago. I really hate cramming like this, but, it did turn out just fine. That is until the side zipper popped two seconds before I was nominated for the costume parade? Also, didn’t have time for the sleeves, they would have been nice.

I don’t know if anyone else has this problem; but when I have to cram to get a dress done for an event, I end up so stressed that I chuck the project away, sweating&swearing, only to find it again after 6 months at the bottom of the closet, fall in love with it all over again and fix it up with loving detail.

That’s what is happening now.

Material Notes

The best material I have ever worked with in my life (so far). Egyptian Cotton (I hope the Egyptian part doesn’t actually mean polyester). It was the only option available at the fabric shop. This was also the first time I’ve actually bought fabric for a pattern, and not a pattern for some random bit of fabric I found.

Based on: Draped Dress (Plus Size) 12/2012 #144 (for some reason the website doesn’t allow me to select or enter the dress reference)

Great job!, BTW Egyptian cotton is the highest quality cotton, very ling fibers, so, no polyester. :)

This is very va va voom gorgeous. I.ve made this in a patterned fabric with sleeves.i had to downsize it.a bit but it was a great pattern to do. I made it as soon as I got the magazine. I.ll post mine once I go out. I love yours and the sleeveless version makes me want to do another in a plain jersey or maybe a sequin fabric for xmas. Fab job x I can never add a reference to anything I make from burda so I just take a phot of the dress etc. and add it x
