Step 3 Sewing

Double the pieces (if sewn with double layer of fabric)

Double all skirt and yoke pieces with both layers of the fabric right sides facing up and tack-stitch the pieces to each other. Treat these doubled pieces as separate pieces from now on.

Yokes

Stitch side front yokes to centre front yoke pieces, right sides facing. Press seam allowances open. Stitch upper left front skirt piece to lower left yoke edge (seam number 2), right sides facing. Press seam allowances open. Stitch centre front skirt piece to lower right yoke edge and upper left front skirt piece (seam number 2), right sides facing. Stitch lower front skirt piece to centre front skirt piece, right sides facing. Press seam allowances open.

Stitch side back yokes to centre back yokes, right sides facing. Stitch back darts and press toward centre back. Stitch back yokes to back skirt pieces (seam number 4). Press seam allowances open.

Side seams

Lay the front piece of the skirt right sides together with the back pieces, line up pin and sew the side seams. Press the seam allowances open. Repeat for facing.

Facing to skirt

Pin facing right sides together with upper skirt edge. Stitch along upper skirt edge. Turn facing up and stitch to seam allowances, close to seam. Turn facing to inside. Tack-stitch back facing ends in place. Sew lower facing edge to seams.

Fold and press hem allowance to inside and sew in place by hand.

Zipper

On back skirt edges, press allowances to outside. Separate the zipper. Pin the zipper to the outside of skirt, on back edges, so that teeth of zip line up even with edges. Fold the top ends of zipper tapes over seam allowance and tack stitch in place. Sew the zipper in place, close to edges of zipper tapes and next to teeth, and stitch across top ends of zip.
