Hi all! I will be coming to London on Friday for the weekend, to attend my sister’s wedding in Chelsea, but also would like to find some nice fabric/habadashery shops to possibly make some purchases… If anyone has any recommendations or suggestions this would be fab!

    Thanks in advance!

So now I have planned my lessons for the next few weeks for work/school. I decided I better make some of the items as samples. I have chosen to look at the process of fabric recycling and upcycling with my year 9 groups (14-15 year olds). So I have taken an old pair of jeans and made a tote bag. When my laptop comes back from being repaired will upload photo. I am currently working on the money purses, make up bags for my year 8 group. Hopefully tomorrow will have something made for my year 7 group ready for Tuesday morning.

A friend of mine brought me a skirt at the weekend, I kid you not it is the colour of bile. She has decorated her bedroom and asked if I could turn the skirt into cushions… well yes I can. I dismantled the skirt and removed the lining. From this I cut pannels, applied stabaliser and a zip along with some backing fabric from my stash. She is well happy with my efforts. I will upload photo later when I get home. This however inspired me to do some patchwork cushion making with my year 9 class next week… once we have covered the safety, setting up and planning….

Just planning my next set of community workshops… I’ve decided to start with the complete basics for once, ie. how to thread the machine, wind a bobbin, ideal tensions, needles, threads, differing fabrics etc… then some solid favs.. “Bag Making Part 1 &2”, “Make do and mend/alter” and “Curtain/Blind or coverings”… Currently sat looking at the mass amounts of fabric I have stashed away over the last year, the box of remnants and offcuts, and the huge bag of “scrap” (ie less than 4" square)…. was planning to do some patchwork with it; however this to date has not materialised…. Now looking for new inspiration for my textiles classes next term for years 7-9. Ideas welcomed! (I have 2×50 minute sessions once a week)
