Oh what perfect presents. I Had a half say of work yesterday so i went to ballymena. The next town. They have a lovely fabric shop there. I fell in love with beautiful lace fabric with sequins. They had it in royal blue and red. Problem is I loved both colourways and it was £20 a metre!!. It would make a Gorgeous bolero. I will look on the internet to see if I can get it cheaper then icon buy both lol x

GOOD LUCK Mary with that!!! Not buying anymore fabric is like me saying “I won’t breathe again”. I have just returned home from shopping and I bought 3 new pieces. Did I need them??? NO. I just heard them calling out to me to take them to my place!!! Just know you are not alone and we are here to support you. Can’t wait to see what you make.

Lol schnui we are all the same. I have changed the list of what I’m making for my holiday every time i see and buy new fabric lol. I’m the same with sewing magazines patterns thread etc. I found a shop that sells mixed size and style buttons so I bought two bags totalling 200 buttons!! Lol. The reasoning behind that buy is one day will need them?? Lol. Im going to make a top and use some buttons As a pattern a like studs x

I saw Jersey waffle fabric advertised on eBay so i ordered some out of curiosity!! Its.gorgeous Ellen so I bought more. It’s got a crinkled effect to it and will make great beach dresses. The problem is I had already bought my dress fabric?? Lol. I can.t help myself. My sister and my niece called round earlier and where loving my fabrics. I have made my niece a top and shorts for bed as she finds it hard to get pyjamas as she’s tall and thin.well they’re that cute on her she said she would wear them out. I will post them once they’re hemmed x

Hi Mary ! Thanks for asking. I am improving !! :-) Finally !!! My chiropractor has been doing A.R.T. on my head/neck, and I feel so much better. Now I just need to get the anxiety that developed under control, figure out how to fix the head pains/balance when I bend over or change position, and the numbness in my hand. We were away for ten days, as we decided to go cruizing in the motor home, and had wonderful relaxing time doing nothing!!! We spent the last three days parked in my girlfriends driveway; it was awesome to see her again. I found buckles, finally, that will work for the jacket I have been planning since January. The ones I first purchased, were too small. I had no idea when I started the plan, that it would be so difficult to find the ‘hardware’ I needed. So I purchased 40 buckles while I was at the store; I need 8 for the jacket. They were only $0.49 each, compared to $5.00 anywhere I could find them online plus shipping costs. This store was so awesome, the basement was all notions and awesome prices on most things. Plus there were a few clear out sales of things I could use ‘at some time’. It was so hard to keep within the budget I had set for myself, but I did. I can’t wait to see all your new projects as they are always inspiring !!! Try not to work to hard, and get sick from exhaustion before your vacation!!!! HUGS

Thanks Rita, glad to hear you’re getting better. That store sounds fantastic and I would love it. I have been known to find a fabric or haberdashery shop and go in when it’s light and go back out when it’s dark lol.
Mum hasn’t been well at all since just before Xmas. She has had COPD since she was 12 and refuses to go on oxygen as she said ‘she has coped with it for 60years’.mum also has bad arthritis in her hands and feet. Well think she got a virus at Xmas and it’s travelling round her body attacking the weak spots like her lungs hands etc?? She now thinks she has frozen shoulder as she can’t move her arms up?? It’s scary for us to witness Rita as although moms 72 she was incredible and so fit. People thought she was my sister on holiday. I got myself the extra job to pay for our holiday and also get some work done on my house. It’s hard going but I love the money lol. It’s lovely being able to do things and buy things for mum. She has been there for us all our lives and we’d be Lost without her. I told her she can just lie at the pool and drink baileys till the cows come home lol. We/re all inclusive. Mums of to the docs today so hopefully they can at least give her something. X

Hi Mary, I wanted to ask you a question about the kimono you made for you daughter way back in 2011 (Lace Kimono 07/2011 #124)- I want to make a kimono dressing gown for myself. I can’t see from the pictures if there’s a decent wrap-over at the front of the kimono. I don’t want to be accidentally flashing myself – my sons would be mortified! Thanks, Penny

Hi Mary. I love your new status !!! It’ is great being able to have the opportunity to sew everyday; although one does start to talk to herself, or her dog. I’ll go through major withdrawals when they tell me I’m okay to return to work. I listen to audio books when doing tracing/cutting, and I am running out of choices from the library of the type I like. LOL You may have already guessed, I haven’t posted everything I’ve made yet. LOL It’s that modelling thing LOL I recently made two of those tops I asked you about, they are soooooo comfortable to wear!!!! Thanks for the neckline tip. Have a wonderful day!

Hi rita. I always feel like such an idiot getting my photos taken!! People tend to stare when you start posing lol. Mum always takes my photos bless her but i did’nt want her to stand about in the cold on sat night taking them.
I hope you are feeling well, sewing does take your mind of a lot of things. I’m buying mum a asus tablet like mine for out holiday at the end of sept. She’s an avid reader and i know she’ll love this. I can customise it for her as it works on the same principle as my phone so i know what i’m doing for a change. I had to hide mine as it’ll spoil the surprise when she gets her at the airport.
i’m going to sew the other scuba dress i cut out out sometime this week rita and wear it next week for my sisters birthday. This one is the reverse of my last one, its black where the floral is, i hope it looks ok when finished lol. I really need to knuckle down and get my diet under control again but working in the ice cream parlours so hard lol plus theres a fab chinese next door so thank god the scuba fabric keeps everything all tucked in hahaha.
i can’t wait to see your tops
take care and god bless xx

Hi daina, all my machines are heavy duty vintage ones. I love them and have 7 now. They sew anything from jersey right up to leather with no problems. I recently bought a pfaff 30 for £25 in a charity shop. They sell for over £200 on ebay so i’m delighted. I also got myself a necci.(itilian) and its immaculate for the same price. Mum bought me a jones one and i use it all the time. For jersey sewing i use an 11 needle and change it regulary. Good needles and the right size are what you need. Any machine can sew jersey x

Thanks Mary….I use an 11 needle too but sometimes I get misstitch when sewing with jersey. I admire jersey alot but I really want the finish to look immaculate. Probably I need to buy an heavy duty machine.

Morning daina, i try and let the feed take the material through without holding it to Taut. Its trial and error and a lot of practice keeping the jersey from stretching. My machines where built to cope with all fabrics and where built to last so they sew jersey so well. Good luck and practice with stitch length tension etc until you get it right x

Hi Mary. Your top from Feb 2014, #137, was a style worn by many people in Vegas last week, in many different combinations. Also, black and white stripes of many different variations were seen everywhere! And if it wasn’t a stripe, it was a black and white combination. Kelsey’s yellow dress was also a very popular style!!! And it was so nice and hot and sunny !!!! :-)

      Morning rita,
my sister got married in vegas 8 years ago. Mum said she went to the loo in the hotel but went out the wrong door and got lost lol. My sis said next time they will tie a rope to her lol, everything was that big she said.
i’ve made a couple more of them tops now rita, they’re quick and i get to use my scraps. I’ve been making summer clothes even though its still cold her!! The sun has been shining the last few days and it has been lovely, i have a couple of things to finish and then i am going to make a couple more jumpsuits. I love them so much. I saw a gorgeous animal print in the kim kardasian collection.which.is similiar to my favourite burda one so i’ll try it. I’m still trying to lose the weight i put on from xmas!! I’m good one day and bad the next lol. I blame it on the weather lol. How are you and hows the sewing.x

Hi Mary. It is so easy to lost in any of the hotels!!!! Your poor mum! My husband is good at navigating, so I just hold on to him. (also for balance). We usually go twice a year, it is so nice and warm. It sounds like you have had a long cold winter. We have had a very mild winter, and the flowers are already starting to bloom. I’m going to make a couple of those tops as well, they look so nice on. I love jumpsuits! Just need to get my body in shape. I haven’t lost the Christmas weight either, and it’s starting to annoy me, especially when I am scrambling for pants to wear; and I was doing so good before winter came. I am the same, good for a day or two, and then lazy. I did purchase a box of select chocolates from Ether M, and have told myself I get one a week if I loose weight that week. Talk about incentive, they are so goooooodddd. I did make a couple of those two piece dolman tops that you suggested; they have been a nice ‘hiding’ lifesaver. Some PJ’s and a scarf for my daughter. And a couple more tops for me, which I’ll post soon as I am not camera shy. I am so slow in my sewing now, but I am very pleased with the results. I am just happy that I am able to sew again, it was scary at first after my stroke. I hope the major testing in two weeks will determine what is wrong with me, and the doctors can fix me. I have been sorting through all the junk/treasures in our basement. So the deal is, I have to sort one hour a day before I can sew. There is a ‘Balmain’ jacket that I would like to replicate, so I have spent some time finding buckles and zippers for it, and figuring out which patterns I could combine; and then along came Burda March 2014, and there is a jacket in there that is very close to the design. It will take a long time to make, so I hope it will look good in the end. If not, I’m sure there is a young lady that will ‘borrow’ it. :-) There is a lady that is going to give me 181 Burda magazines from her mother, starting in 1960, so looking through those may distract me. LOL My granddaughter and great niece also have birthdays coming up, so I am going to make them each something original. My husband also needs a new jean jacket. So maybe by the time those projects are done, my weight will be down, and then I’ll start my jacket. Take care, and it’s awesome to see all your neat projects! :-)

      Hi rita,
i really am sending you lots of good wishes and hugs for your check up. I did’nt realise you had a stroke, hats of to you for battling back from such an awful thing. Life does throw us some challenges dos’nt it. I have two friends who had heart attacks and two with cancer. My best friend passed away on my birthday ladt june, she was only 43 and the lovilest girl i ever met with the sweetest heart. We used to go to zumba a lot and we laughed so much, once lorna got really ill we stopped going (xmas before last) we even went to the zumba xmas party and had such a fun night, 6 months later she was gone. I really need to get up of my bum and go back as its great exercise but i still associate it with lorna. Sewing takes my mind of things and the people on here are so lovely.
i’m baby sitting my sons 2 girls on st patricks day (overnight) i asked andrew instead of flowers chocs i don’t need for mothers day could he help me transform my smallest spare room into my sewing ?room? He knew i was after something when i said i would keep them overnight lol. I can’t wait!! My living.room resembles a sweat shop lol. Theres 3 sewing machines plus all the extras. Hopefully once its done i’ll use it?? I Love being able to get of my sofa and sew when i feel like it so i will still keep a sewing machine in the living room. Take care and god bless rita x

I laughed at your new heading, ’It’s so hard to resist new fabric’. Because it is so true!!! Two weeks ago I had a big tidy up of my sewing room and fabric stash and I have a room full of fabric that was too hard to resist!!! I felt rather guilty as I will never need that many new clothes but I couldn’t throw a piece out. The stash is huge but it is beautiful!! So to help my addiction, I got my iPhone and took photos of all the different colour groups, making sure I could see each piece of fabric. And then I talked to myself very sternly (like you do when you have to teach a little child they cannot have those lollies at the checkout counter) that when I am in a fabric shop, I need to look at my iPhone photos before I buy any fabric. Do I have something similar?? Do I really need it ?? And the other thing I am telling myself ‘THERE WILL ALWAYS BE BEAUTIFUL FABRIC’ and there will always be good fabric bargains. So don’t feel alone Mary, fabric addiction is well and truly alive in Australia.

Lol schnui, i really am a dreadful fabric hoarder. I have even bought the same fabric in different colours by accident lol. I just adore fabric, i get the same thrill out of new fabric that i used to get clothes shopping. These days i prefer to make aa many of my clothes as i can. My sewing hoard is taking over my house though and my kids have said i’m going to end on one of them buried alive hoarding shows hahaha. I recently started gutting my smallest room to turn it into my sewing room. I found another large bag.of fabric.that i had forgotton about plus loads of abandoned projects, some gave me brain freeze and some i got bored with. My plan is to have everything in one room?? One day lol. One of my favourite sellers on ebay has just put on all new fabric and after i worked out what i wanted and counted the money up it was over £200. I so want it all as well.i have so much fabric the same as you, sometimes i’ve been loooking for something and found fabric that i don’t like any more as well!! I’ve done quite a bit of sewing since xmas but we hav’nt been out much for photos to be taken. I’m making my daughter a dress for her 21st and fingers crossed it should look good on her. Keep on sewing. Much love from a damp northern ireland lol x

Enjoy the festive season Mary and all the sewing you will be doing during it. I am off to Queenstown in New Zealand early Tuesday morning to go to my dear friends sons’ wedding which will be lovely. I travel to Queenstown several times a year as it is one of the most beautiful towns in the world and my friends always want me to go and stay with them. I will be home in time for Christmas and to do all the cooking that needs to be done. I have done most of my shopping but have yet to wrap it all up. Enjoy getting out and about in your lovely cape and accepting heaps of compliments.

      Hi schnui,
i don’t know how i missed your message but i hope you had a safe trip and a lovely time at the wedding. I’ve been getting in the festive mood by sewing some sparkly dresses, i love this time of year because i do love a bit of bling lol. I’m going to my sons for xmas dinner this year. This will be the first time i have not made my turkey dinner. Its sad as i love doing all the cooking at xmas but both of my kids have moved out now and have familys of their own so its just me my sewing machines and my cats lol. Who knows what the future holds for any of us!! at the moment i’m happy being free and single and just enjoying my family and friends. I have a few nights out planned so i’ll be sewing like mad as always. Take care x

Leopard print could be nice if you break it down with a plain material combined together, like black denim or cotton jersey, also depends on the style of the garment. I think maxi dresses, especially with sleeves, could work brilliantly with the so called tacky prints and materials :) Can be tasteful if you take your time with it…use no lace x

Thanks trudy. I lusted after this fabric on ebay but was a bit meh!! When it arrived. The fabric has a metallic sheen to it and it would,ve been so much nicer if they had’nt added this. I had the fabric earmarked for a long dress for new years eve so i made it!! Its a really nice pattern but i am worried i’m going to look like a 70’s bar maid lol. I like it and i don’t if you know what i mean. I’m going to put it on and photograph it and then decide if i should chop it to the knee?, ? I was going to make a brown faux leather shrug.to go over it. I googled leopard print long dresses and some of the ones i found where far more tacky than mine. X

Hi dilyana, yes i think burda are having more technical prblems. Nothing has been added to the projects for 4*5 days. This is the third time something has gone wrong?? The photos where to dark then all new projects went into the studios and not onto the main page and now this. I am just waiting until burda fix it to post xx

Well it appears burda have fixed the colour problem only to have made another? I hav’nt been able to see anyone’s new projects since november the 6th. This is so frustrating. It appears anyone adding new projects will discover they go into their studio but do not appear in the main project site I am going to photograph my cape to.day and will now have to bide my time to post this . Come on burda sort this out. I love looking on this site and seeing what other people have made and i love the sense of friendship respect and encouragement we get here x
