I am in the middle of making this dress from the German language magazine. The pattern layout shows the pleated cummerbund/belt being cut on the bias grain. DO NOT DO THIS! The pleats are impossible to press and sew when on the bias. The pleats wiggle and wave and curl and ripple -and the soft flowing fabrics this dress is best made from make the problem worse. Place the pattern piece it on the straight grain, long edge parallel to the selvage and then cut it out. When the belt is cut on the straight grain the pleats are easier to press and sew and look a thousand times better with no ripples, curling or stretching. There’s no reason that it’s cut on the bias, the lower layer is on the straight so the stretch of the bias offers no advantage. just a little tip so it’s a bit easier to make. Otherwise the dress is quite simple to make, the tulip collar is quite lovely and the buttons add a bit of decorative charm. I;m using pearly-looking ball buttons. The cummerbund was a nightmare until I clued in that the bias cut was the problem.
