I am treating myself to a new body form mannaquine ! I’ve saved some cash and wish to invest in a decent one rather than using my home made one ( which served me well but I want a treat). I have been thinking it may be wise to invest in an adjustable one as I notice a lot of these standard ones which don’t adjust seem to be off a few inches for my measurements, also in the unlucky event I put on weight or the lucky event I loose a few pounds an adjustable one will probably serve me longer.

Looking on E-bay I have seen some reasonable ones for just under £100.00, I thought this was cool . Last time I looked theY were reaching nearly £200.00, is this a good price or am I being ripped off still is £100.00 dear? Also the makes I have seen are

Supa Fit Size
Lady Valete

What make would you recommend out of the 2? Or do do have anything different?

All views welcome and fast this cash is burning a hole in my pocket, and If I don’t invest now I will spend it on shoes LOL :D

I’d strongly recommend the Adjustoform range. http://adjustoform.com/ Lady Valet and Supafit are both part of their range, so will do well. I’d recommend an 8 part form so you can adjust top and bottom separately and then adjust the waist length. We have five of them working for us, and they have proved good value for money. In addition, if parts break, you can get spares direct from Adjustoform.

I bought ours through Jaycotts, who seem to have a good price. They range in price from about £115 to £150, so your ebay price looks good to me. Check with the Adjustoform website to see which one best suits your needs for fit and type, and go for it.

One thing to keep in mind is that they are not real human being, and even with adjustments, will not be exactly YOU shaped: you do still need to do a proper fitting. That being said, they can still be an invaluable tool in the sewing room.

Enjoy! All ours have names! Dolly, Jenny, Clarissa, Caroline, Win, Fred, and Brat!

If you are making something really fitted or for someone with a specific fitting issue, and for corsetted historical dress, it’s really worth keeping something like polyester batting and toy stuffing on hand, along with some sheeting: Set your dummy to a size or two smaller than needed and pad up to the correct size and shape. We do this a lot for blokes with bay windows and women in stays! We do this such a lot that we are thinking when we get a bit of slack time, we’ll make some bust, hip and belly pads to make the stuffing easier! Fabulous Fit in the USA make some foam ones for fine-tuning their dressforms, but they are expensive to start with and costly to ship, and they don’t quite fit our specific needs, so in odd moments we are designing our own, to be stuffed with the innards of things like old pillows and duvets! Recycling for the win!

Have fun with Lucinda! Nicest things about her? She’ll never complain when you stick pins in her, she’ll listen to you swear for days on end at need, and she’ll never answer back! ;)
