I have a couple of metres of a gorgeous silk velvet, and want to make a jacket, but I’m not sure which pattern would work with the silk velvet fabric.
I love this one:
Open Front Jacket (Plus Size) 11/2012 #144
- it’s meant to be made in brocade.
Does silk velvet come under the ‘light weight, softly draping fabric’ category that so many patterns state as suitable material?

If anyone has any tips, I’d love to hear from you.

Best Wishes,

Silk can take on so many different drapes and textures it’s hard to say what it would be good for without seeing it. I’ve checked pattern 144 but it’s a dress. Brocade is a very thick fabric so it might not be ok for that pattern. But if your in doubt, hold the fabric up and look at the drape and see if the garment is the same. Sometimes a completely different garment can be made by choosing different fabric and it still looks good

Thank you so much for your helpful advice. That’s great now I know I can hold up the velvet and compare the drape to the pattern garment picture. I will post a picture of my finished garment! It will take a good long while to finish it i think!!

    Many thanks, Clare
