Hi BurdaStyle fam!

I decided this weekend that I need to learn how to sew. So here I am… but I need the tools!

Could you guys please help me and lead me towards a good first sewing machine? Something cost effective but that I can grow with. I am literally at Level 0 so also needs to be fairly basic. :)

Thank you so much and happy to have this website at my fingertips for my future endev

Research, research, research! Always go for something more than the basic as you will regret it if you don’t. Buy from a reputable dealer who gives good after sales service and preferably free lessons thrown in too. Personally I love Bernina machines. Good luck.

Another suggestion would be a Brother sewing machine. I had a Brother sewing machine (can’t remember which model it was, but it was basic) and serger (1034D) that both stitched beautifully and never gave me a problem. I still have the serger but upgraded to a Brother computerized embroidery sewing machine (HE-240, bought on sale at Costco for around $300 and absolutely love it!). I agree with arisaid that buying from a reputable dealer is the ideal way but, if there aren’t any in your area, the customer support for Brother is excellent (I called them once when I first got my HE-240 and they were super helpful!). If you purchase from Costco and have any issues you can easily return it. I would definitely read the reviews online before purchasing anything. That’s what I always do, and it seems to pay off :)
