I’ve never used a Burda pattern before (have used many others, though), and I can’t figure out what the symbols for required notions mean. I’m making the Wiesn Dirndl and I don’t know if I’m supposed to buy elastic, lace, bias tape…there are these symbols but I don’t know what they mean! Is there anywhere on the website where this is explained? I feel like I’ve looked everywhere and I’m about to throw my laptop out the window out of frustration! Help PLEASE! I will be so happy if there is an obvious answer out there—I don’t care how stupid I look at this point. Thank you!

The one with the zigzag lines on it, like a 3 step zigzag stitch, is elastic.

The one with diagonal lines is bias tape.

The one with zits is fusible waistband stuff. You can just cut a bit of form woven fusible interfacing to use instead.

Ahhh! Thank you SO much! I seriously felt like I was losing my mind over this.

For future reference, is there a key for notions anywhere, or do you just have to figure it out as you go along? I feel like I’m the only person on earth (who uses Burda patterns) for whom this is not intuitive. Thanks again!

No idea! I know it from using Burda paper patterns for over 30 years…

Ha! Well, I know three of them now, thanks to you. I’m pretty sure I have the ones for zippers and buttons down, too, since those are somewhat less cryptic. :) Hopefully no laptops will lose their lives in the learning process…

You also need some piping for B. There’s no symbol shown – In the box where it says ‘Paspelband’ (=), next to the buttons.

I know it’s years later, but thanks for asking this! I also determined that the one under the elastic with little circles and ovals is lace for the sleeves of the blouse.
