I have started to make my own rockabilly pencil skirts and would love to be able to add an oversized bow on the back (see photo below) but I can’t find a pattern or tutorial anywhere :( Does anyone know where I can find a pattern or tutorial?

It looks to me like this is a faux bow. I they took a red rectangle and trimmed it with black. Then they pinched it in the center and sewed the black band around it forming the bow. For the long ties use a long rectangle in red and also trimmed with the black. This is then folded in the middle and stitched on to the back of the bow and the whole thing is attached to the back of the skirt. I use this quite a lot in costuming. Really shows up from the last row!

Here under is the adress where you can find a tuto for “a perfect bow” :http://www.fiskarettes.fr/?s=noeud+parfait It is in french, but the pictures can be understood. It really makes a perfect bow (a little one one but you can enlarge it). Nevertheless, I agree with bjr99 : that bow is not a real one and certainly made of three distinct parts. Good luck with the skirt… really sexy !

Thankyou for your help :) I can see what you mean about it being three different parts now, Sometimes I can’t see the wood for the trees :(

Glad to be able to help. The give away on this bow is the black knot. If it were all in one piece the knot would have some red in it. Good luck with your project and let us see the results.
