If the top of an invisible zipper is not sitting flat at the neckline, despite trimming away excess fabric at the seam, is it better to just take it out and start with a new one? Thanks

Have you trimmed away the excess of the invisible zipper tape? You could cut them at an angle so the top of the zipper is the shape of an inverted V.

I’ve trimmed it all basically. Even though I lined the tape up with the seam edge and allowed enough room for the facing (at least I thought I did), I think the teeth are a fraction too close to the facing seam. The zip is dark blue so it’s quite difficult to see what’s going on above the zip stopper at the top.

Hmmm, can you post a picture, might make it clearer what the problem is but as it reads to me, it sounds like maybe you have to move the zipper down a couple of mms.

I haven’t worked out how to put photos in the forum postings, is it possible? Anyway I’ve ripped the zipper out and I’m replacing it with one that has a lighter weight tape. Hope it works!

I’ve only ever worked out how to put photos by creating a project and putting them there but there must be a way of doing it properly as I have seen others do it. I’m not computer savvy enough I guess.

I think the other thing you can do if the zip is too ‘heavy’ is to add a stabilizer of some sort to the seam allowance of the fabric where you’re going to insert it. I’ve done that before with a strip of ribbon.

Well I’ve put the new zipper in and it’s a much better finish but I think that the fabric and interfacing are too bulky (cotton), so I think the two factors were contributing to the problem.
