I recently was bought a sewing machine for my birthday.
I really want to start making my own clothes and recently bought a dress pattern for a maxi dress.
I need to add a elastic waistband and a gathered neckline.
I have tried to google this but finding it difficult to find help.
I also have random peices for the neck with i assume you sew in the inside of the dress.
Would much appreciate some help.

Thanks Heather

PS the pattern is on here under 116-04211 if that helps.

Have you downloaded the instruction sheet as well as the pattern pieces? (If it was a Burda downloadable pattern, they usually have two separate files—one for the instructions and one for the pattern pieces.) The instruction file should tell you what to do with the ‘random’ neck pieces you have, which I’m assuming are neck facings (a piece of fabric, usually reinforced with fusible interfacing, that is sewn around the inside of the neck opening to keep the opening from stretching out of shape). Not sure why you’re having trouble finding info online for the techniques you mentioned…I just tried these search terms in google and got a huge pile of useful hits: “sewing elastic waistband” or “sewing gathered neckline”. Try those, see what you find. Good luck with your first dress! Hope you enjoy.
