I am making this pattern using a jersey material and regular thread. I was doing pretty good until I got to the elasticied waistband. When I stretch it with my hands to test the elastic in the waist the thread pops/breaks. It also pops/breaks in the hem. Should I use a different stick because of the stretch in the fabric? Should I use different thread? Any suggestions? Thanks!

For stretch fabric you need to use a ball-point sewing needle size 9 or 11. I use a stretch stitch that’s built into my machine. (it looks like it’s making two stitches forward and one backward and so on) For the hem I usually use a double stitched hem easily done with a twin needle or sew it by hand for an invisible hem.

    Hi hun!

From the sounds of it, I think the problem might be more to do with the type of stitch you are using. As stated in the pattern you should use a stitch that has stretch in it. Something like a zig zag or the stretch stitch that is built into some machines. You can also use a twin needle – due to the way the stitches occur with a twin needle it results in a good amount of stretch. If you use a stitch without stretch (like a regular straight stitch) then your hems will pop when stretched.

    I hope that helps!!
