I have a burda pattern 3742 with a missing sleeve pattern. Does anyone have any tips for drafting a new one to fit?

Draw a straight line down – the top (A) to the bottom (B) should be the length of the sleeve.

From the top of the shoulder down, mark © the cap hight (the same distance from the end of the shoulder to under the arm on the bodice)

Rule a horizontal line through the centre of C.

Measure all around the armhole of the front and back bodice, then divide by 2. Then from point A, pivot the ruler left, till the measurement just touches the line (E) at C. Do the same on the right side (F). You should have a triangle at the top.

Measure the amount you want around the wrist, then draw a horizontal line at point B the same length as your measurement (O on the left and P on the right).

Then draw a line from O to E and from F to P.

The next part is to round off the top of the sleeve. I wont really be able to help you with this, but basically if you divide the line from E to A and A to F by 8 – at 3/8 up from E and F, the new line should run through the already drawn line. Below 3/8 it should be below the already drawn line meeting at point E and F, and above 3/8 it should be above the already drawn line meeting smoothly at point A.

Remember to do a practice run in calico before the real thing, so you can adjust.

    Good luck!!
