How many darts should there be in the half-skirt front and the half-skirt back? I have seen 3 different tutorials, one has 2 darts in the back and 1 in the front, the second has 1 dart in the back and 2 in the front, and the third has one dart in the front and another in the back. Does the number of darts have to do with your waist to hip ratio thing??

My waist (belly really) is 36" and my hip (widest point) is 43".

Thanks alot in advance

During patternmaking class, I was taught to add 1 dart in the front and 1 dart in the back. Only if the ratio between waist and hip is very big, another dart should be added in the back. This makes sense because the larger hip circumference will mainly be caused from the “behind”.

I hope this helps you. You should actually measure your waist circumference at your natural waist = the smallest part of your upper body. Otherwise your self-drafted patterns probably won’t fit.
