Hi – want to get coverseamer, or coverstitch machine, found secondhand Bernina 2000dce model – these aren’t very new – but had wanted to pick something a for a reasonable price for a starter. Interested in what other people use and like?

I have a Jonome My Lock 644D. I have probably had it for about 10 years and it works wonderfully. Even though I use it a LOT it has NEVER failed me :-). It is a simple four thread serger and is a great low cost choice.

I have an Elna 740 dex four thread serger which I bought off e-bay. It’s my first ever machine so I wanted to try one without spending a fortune. I was very lucky as it was in perfect condition and hardly used. It’s so easy to use and finishes my projects beautifully.

I have a Janome Memorylock 2. It’s 5 thread and does coverstitch as well as all the other stuff. I’ve had it more than 10 years I think and just had it serviced recently. The guy warned me that the computer parts are no longer made so if it dies, that’s it. :( Fantastic machine though and I have all the attachments I could ever want. I have been warned that the memorylock 1 did not have a good rep though so you can find the 2’s quite cheap but they don’t have the flaws that the 1 had. When I upgrade I want to move to Babylock, the evolution if I can afford it. Had a play with it at a craft fair and fell in love! However my local sewing shop (who do my servicing) have informed me that the auto threading will be coming out in other brands within the next 2 years. Bernina in particular will be bringing out one to rival the top of the range Babylock machines and at a lower price. So since I am a Bernina lover, I am hanging on until they present their offering!
