Hi! I`m looking for advice on making a pincushion cuff (the one that goes on your wrist so you don`t have to go around looking for it everytime you move your fabric around).

I had one that I bought, but had to stop using because it had no aditional backing so everytime I put a pin on it I stabbed myself on the wrist.
Then I made one myself, which I backed with a couple of layers of craft foam, but after a while still had the same wrist-stabbing problem, I guess because the foam ended up all perforated anyway.

My question is: have any of you made a pincushion like this? What did you back it with? Or if you haven’t, do you have any ideas for a more sturdy backing that`s not too stiff? (so i can still move my hand around)

Any ideas welcome! Thanks!

I use stiff paper, something a bit like panflet paper or business cards. I fold the paper over about 4 times then cut it to size. Instead of foam, I use either quilt/toy stuffing or a good quality shoulder pad. I like the shoulder pad more especially, because if a pin cant poke through that, I know to throw it away or it will snag fabric.
