Hi all, I think I may have posted this in the wrong forum so thought I’d give it a quick try in this one as well to see if anyone has any suggestions for me.
I bought some gorgeous pre-pleated gold + black fabric hoping to make a knee length skirt or dress with it but now i’ve got it I can’t for the life of me work out what sort of pattern I’d use.
Would I make a separate waist band and cut the skirt pieces out as oblong panels and then fold the pleats in place before fixing it to the waistband? Or would I just gather the top edge?
And how do I know how long an oblong I’d need to get the right amount of swing and leg room in the skirt?
I had some patterns for pleated skirts somewhere and they all said to cut the fabric out first, (the pattern pieces being semicircles) and then take the cut out fabric to be professionally pleated but if it’s already pleated, cutting a semi circle shape would have the pleats at different angles ranging from vertical to horizontal.

I would do an attached waist band and measue the width of the fabric to be the same size as the waistband when all thw pleats are folded in.
