Hi there,
Found rainy63’s pattern (on this site) on making a mermaid’s tail but need a little more info..the picture shows the front only..is the back exactly the same? and do the feet go inside the tail..would you be walking on the back side of the tail??
Really like this pattern but need help to go ahead….Thanks!!

I haven’t seen the pattern you’re referencing, however I recently made one for our kids, so my opinions are based on the one I created. Yes the front and back are the same, and I left enough room in the tail part for the feet to fit inside. and they hop/waddle around on the tail. Next time I’d widen the pattern, but otherwise it worked out quite well.

If you want any more info, let me know.

January 2014 issue of Burda Style, p. 43, has a mermaid costume for an adult. The skirt incorporates the tail styling into the pattern (front and back pieces), with other fabric layers underneath cascading, providing the ocean sea plant life effect.Since the skirt is fitted throughout the hipline, it’s not going to be a garment to walk in with large strides. http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/burda_Style/145_Jupe__bijoux/1270777-1000019-1806458-1806505-1806525.html

The costume detail described in the original post of the thread-it does not sound safe for feet that are hindered by the costume.
