Hi,

I bought a BurdaStyle magazine 03/2010 but unfortunately it is in German, which I don’t speak. I decided to sew a skirt no. 123 and I translated the most of the instructions with a help of a dictionary, but there are a lot of words which are not listed in the dictionary and I don’t know what they mean. I also have a lot of problems with translation of the text about sewing a zipper in the skirt. I am a beginner in sewing. So I would kindly ask if someone could provide me an English instructions for this skirt or translate the instructions from German to English for me.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Tjassa (Slovenia)

You can use goggle translator. Scan it, turn it into a PDF, and publish it in google documents. Then insert the link into google translator.

      Hi mlssfshn,

thank you for your reply! I already tried all kinds of translators, but they are not very good. You know German language – one word is made from several words and it is a little confusing for me. I even asked my boyfriend who speaks German for translation but some words are so specific that he can’t translate them. Anyway, I will continue to translate with a help of dictionaries… I hope I will sew the skirt correctly (especially the zipper)!

      Kind regards,

      Tjassa

You’ve probably finished your skirt by now, but maybe this helps for the future: http://dict.leo.org/ is by far the best german online dictionary. Also, I’m not sure wich one skirt 123 is in the magazine, they have the patterns online but with different numbers i think. But the skirts in march/2010 burda all look to me like they have the zippers put in in quite a regular way – if you know what it’s supposed to look like when finished you can use the zipper instructions for a different garment on the english website for example or one of the tutorials on this website.

Hey tjassa, maybe you can post the words that you cannot find here. There are several native German speakers here (me too) who could help you better, if we knew which words or sentences you don’t understand.

    Dear all,

I was very surprised to see so many replies! I am now in the middle of changing my job (and a lot of work to be done in my old job before I go), that is why I really hadn’t time to check if there were any replies to my request. Job changing is also the reason I still didn’t finish the skirt. :( Anyway, thank you all for your help, it really means a lot to me!!

Seemane: Thank you for scans. But unfortunately I can't read from the scan (the letters are kind of smudged). I clicked on the link to download the large version of scan, but it seems it doesn't work - all I can see is blank website. I would be very grateful if you would send me the large version of scan (if possible) to: tjassagmail.com. Can I also ask you to scan the instructions for skirt 106 (I need instructions for zipper for this skirt because they are applicable also for 123 skirt) and send me the scan?

@bekaem: thank you for your link! It really is a very good dictionary!

@Flowergirl22 & Julietta: thank you for providing your help with translation. I asked Seemane for scan because I think it is the easiest thing to do; but in case I would need translation, can I contact you two anyway?

Thanks again to all of you! Tjassa

      Hi Tjassa

I have just emailed you the instructions for skirt 123.
I will find & scan the instructions for skirt 106 (from the same magazine) when I get home from work tonight (it’s 1pm in the United Kingdom right now).

      Best wishes,
      Seemane :)

I have a similar problem. I bought Burda 7601 & there are no English instructions. I have tried google translator but it doesn’t translate the sewing terms easily. If any one has English instructions for this pattern I would be eternally grateful!!
