I bought a long sleeved dress (full length) and it’s tight, I want to add fabric to the sides under the sleeves all the way down but don’t know how. Any suggestion? Thanks so much!!

Where is it tight? All over or just over the hips? If it was all over, i would open up the side seams (including the sleeves) and the centre back seam, measure myself against the dress to see how much needed to be added and then put strips of contrasting or complimentary fabric (whichever takes your fancy. If the dress is matt, it could look good with shiny fabric for the strips) along the full length of the arm seams and down the sides and then one down the back. If the sleeves and top half fits fine, I’d put strips of fabric each side that are triangular in shape with the narrow point where the underside of the sleeve meets the bodice and down. Do you have a photo of the dress you could post as the style of it is likely to make a difference as to the best way to handle it.

the sleeves fit and bust fit so just the hips that’s tight. It’s a straight-cut dress (no extra seam or belt separating the bodice and skirt portion) made out of a kind of stretchy material. The triangles seem like the best idea since i dont want to alter the sleeves in any way, thanks so much :)
i’m kind of new and sewing though so any tips on how to go about doing that near the top where the bodice meets the under side of the sleeves? :S
