Ladylike lace keeps you looking polished in sticky weather. See a few of our favorite outfits in lace!

Lace strikes the perfect balance of sexy and classic, bohemian and romantic. Control how much skin you want to show with a cami, half slip, or by sewing in a full lining. For an extra dose of style, try a contrasting lining! Red pongee silk looks striking under black lace, and a blush pink satin looks positively heavenly under ivory or cream lace. See how to style some of our favorite lace patterns below, from floor length dresses to daytime short shorts.

Sweetheart Blouse, Wrap Blouse, Lace Shorts*

The Lace Shorts are fully lined in crepe satin with front and back pleats for fit. They’re a summer staple at music festivals, and give a dose of feminine charm to any outfit. Go retro by pairing these hot pants with a structured top like the Sweetheart Blouse, or make it casual in embellished sandals and a plain tee shirt. A top that falls somewhere in between, like the modern Wrap Blouse, keeps itsy bitsy shorts looking polished.

The Tiered Dress is a wonderfully detailed lace project, with a tiered skirt, boned bodice, and plunging low back. This frothy confection is a more advanced project. Tackle it with confidence with the How to Sew the Tiered Dress video. This video has a full three hours of video instruction, including how to work with lace, attach scalloped edge details, attach boning, gather many yards of fabric, install an invisible zipper, hand stitch a lining, and more. You’ll have help every step of the way!

This piece has high drama all on its own. Style it for a wedding with a floral crown and simple jewels. Colored lace changes the look entirely…. Just take a look at Becky’s black stunner of a dress! You’ll be a beautiful guest at any party in pale blue or even red. This is the exact dress stitched up in the How to Sew The Tiered Dress video.

Lace Cardigan, Back Lace Top, Skinny Pants with Hip Yoke, Lace Shirt, Front Pleat Skirt

One lacey element brings a soft feminine style to any outfit. The Lace Cardigan goes anywhere, and can be buttoned over a plain camisole or white tank for a more put together, girly look. Transform washed out jeans with the lace cardi and a statement necklace or lightweight scarf. The Lace Shirt is unlined, and can be worn on its own with a contrasting bandeau or with a matching camisole. If you’re not ready to commit to an allover lace garment, sew up the Back Lace Top. This tee has a full coverage front and peekaboo back, so you can show just a little skin at a romantic dinner. For the office, simply wear a tank underneath and pair it with the fitted Skinny Pants with Hip Yoke.

Even one or two lace garments can bring an old fashioned feminine touch to your wardrobe. Try mixing up this classically girly fabric with a bright color, casual tee, or contrasting layers.

Agreed, gorgeous. I have some light blue Chantilly lace, or pink, hm maybe the royal and black silk lace?
