Town and Country takes inspiration from English gardens and vintage frocks. Layer dresses under blousy jackets and oversized cardigans, or tuck a body conscious top into masculine trousers. This collection is from the September 2013 issue of Burda Style magazine. You’ll be ready for a romantic weekend getaway in these designs!

A simple Slip Dress is an effortless layering piece for all seasons. Pair this delicate spaghetti strap design with an oversized sweater for the fall. In warm weather, it looks great with peep toe heels.

Dolman sleeves are so floaty and elegant, especially in lace. Make this Lace Dolman Top for a statement piece that’s as effortless as it is pretty. This blouse is soft and feminine for date night or just lounging in the afternoon.

Show off your cleavage with the Knotted Top’s V neckline. This slinky top is super flattering, thanks to the deep V neck and cinched in knotted waist. Tuck it in, or draft a longer hem and wear it as a tunic with leggings.

This blousy Rounded Jacket is perfect for wearing with your favorite dresses and skirts. The pretty rounded collar and puffed sleeves keep your look polished and feminine. Get a little Jackie O glamour!

Attend a garden party or high tea in this beautiful vintage-inspired Gather and Tuck Dress. Plenty of tucks, gathers, and ruffles give ladylike charm to this lovely design. Pair it with lace-up boots for a Gibson Girl vibe, or make it modern with pumps and a cardigan.

Show a little leg in this slitted Skirt. This piece has a proper shape with a natural waist and back seam, but a foxy leg slit that also gives you room to move. Add a little sass to your vintage blouses.

This midi length Princess Coat is so ladylike. The flared skirt looks great with dresses, and gives a feminine touch to any winter outfit. Make it even more mod in a houndstooth or plaid.

Pick a soft jersey knit for this oversized Boyfriend Cardigan. You won’t need to borrow a sweater from the boys in this cozy piece that looks casual over slip dresses or cutoff shorts.

The Scoop Sleeve Dress has the straight lines and breezy cap sleeves of a flapper dress. Make it in a body skimming fabric like patterned velvet. This is an elegant piece to wear to a Broadway show or holiday dinner.

A subtle fluttery godet gives movement to this pretty Skirt. The simple, flowing shape goes with anything. This a fun skirt to wear dancing!

Get a retro 1940s feeling in these high waisted Button Tab Trousers. This menswear style looks pretty paired with a feminine, fitted top. Go with a high-heeled loafer or spectator to amp up the vintage charm.

This collection has hints of different eras, but the styles are still contemporary. Florals and feminine colors are a nice change for fall. Try butter yellow and mauve instead of the typical shades of mustard and plum. So pretty!

Happy sewing!

Lovely collection. Nice slip dress. And the jacket is very sophisticated.

Thumbs up for this one Burda :) Thuumbs down for the city Lights.

I think you can interpret the “complaints” by the plus sized ladies that this is not a plus sized collection as well, as a compliment that everyone likes these styles.

Love the fabric combinations. Any chance of referencing fabrics used under each pattern blurb???

I am confused by the coat. With princess seaming it should be fitted close to the body. The coat on the model is huge and appears to require some sort of string around the waist to give it shape. What is the true fit of this coat? Is it fitted or loose?

Agreed most of these styles have good simple lines and they could have been provided in plus sizes without any real additional effort.

There is really no excuse to not offer all patterns in plus sizes. Just because YOU don’t think it’ll look good on someone of size doesn’t mean it won’t and it doesn’t mean we don’t want to wear it. We deserve beautiful clothes, too.

the yellow dress and the pink coat are from Burdastyle 9/12. They’re also on this site as pdfs. I don’t have a daughter, but they’re so lovely I might have to sew them up for some friends’ children.

Why can’t you extend the sizes? Many of these items would be just as lovely on a plus sized lady. It’s time Burda open there hearts to women of all sizes.

I love this collection. It reminds me a little of Ulyana Sergeenko’s style. I love almost every pattern here, esp the gather and tuck dress, the button tab trousers, fluttery godet skirt, the rounded jacket, and the scoop sleeve dress. I also appreciate the back darts on the scoop sleeve dress. It definitely flatters my pear shape much more :)
