Right now, the hot trend in fashion is the Jegging. An alternative to skinny jeans, jeggings look like denim, but are much softer and have more stretch. Thinking about making a pair of your own? Try BurdaStyle’s Carol legging, Jalie 2920, or Kwik Sew’s latest pattern, 3807.

I am not a fan of leggings, but I do like jeggings. I made one with very stretchy jeans, I wear it during cold days with high boots and long shirts, and because it is made of jeans it keeps me warm. The pattern to make it is different from the legging.

Leggings (or “jeggings”, blech) are not pants! Terrible, terrible, terrible.

The only use for these things is to wear underneath something else to keep your legs warm when you’re heavily pregnant and can’t or don’t want to wear pants. They’re warmer and more comfortable than tights.

I would not be caught dead wearing these ever for anything else, double especially with a short top. God, my eyes, my poor, bleeding eyes, and that just from the pictures above.

I don’t like them, they have been very popular amongst 8 years old for nearly a year now.

I think Nessa, is right. If you really want some good fitting pair of jeans, than just make them fit. those jeggins or whatever, they’re just not a solution.

I am not a fan of jeggings. I think they are a ridiculous fad that we will all laugh about in the future after we are done cringing in the present.

Hehe funny. :-) A second ago, as I was drinking my coffee on the balcony, I saw a girl wearing jeggings (is that even a word?). Don’t mind people wearing them, but I wouldn’t! Not my style. I totally agree with Nessa: Make real jeans instead.

Jeggings are a bit revolting – if you want a pair of comfortable jeans, make some! Go on, it isn’t too hard and you will have a comfy, perfectly-fitting pair of REAL jeans. Try BurdaStyle’s Anita pattern.

Tights are not pants. Tights should not be worn as pants. Tights go under things to stop chaffing and your legs getting cold. Please cease this affront to the occular nerves!!! PLEASE!

Yeah not sure how I feel about jeggings. I wear leggings under stuff. I can’t stand them as pants. I would only wear them with something that covered my bum or to the gym/running. Good for all you that do love them. I just can do it.

I have a pair of jeggings, the trick is not to get the size that’s NOT skin tight and get a pair with real pockets on the back, that prevents a VPL, and fake pockets on the front to avoid pocket lines or unnecessary bulging. I got mine at Uniqlo and no one has yet guessed that they’re jeggings yet, but they’re not leggings made with denim, they’re trousers made with stretch denim, it’s different.

I’m not a fan. I love leggings under things, but as a stand-alone replacement for pants? Not so much. And the name “jeggings” really doesn’t help!

Haha yeah, I can’t stand the name of them either :P
I love leggings, they’re great when I’ve got a skirt or dress that’s just a little too short to wear by itself!

But leggings/jeggings as pants don’t look good on anyone, no matter how thin they are. Even worse when people wear patterned undies underneath and since leggings aren’t very thick, you can see the pattern through them..

I have never cared for leggins, in either form. Not my style, and I definitely don’t think they should replace pants. They have stuck around for a quite a while now, though.

That’s what I thought too!!! I think that’s where the 80’s nightmares fashion of shiny leggings I refer to above evolved from. . . . eck! (Seriously psychologically scared . ..!!!)

I’m with you baby. Stick with leggings and pop on a dress or skirt . . no-one needs their bottom revealed in such intense fashion . .. not good! (Even if that chick in the brown shiny ones above has a perfect bot – it still not a good look!). Those stone-washed jean ones smack of 80’s bogan to me!

Eurghh.. jeggings. Just encouraging people to wear leggings as pants with short tops, which should not happen.

Those brown shiny ones are giving me a goodness-awful flash-back to the worse of the 80’s……

I think I remember seeing some like that back then in a shiny white (shudder) . . . . sorry just can’t do it!

I think I too will stick with regular leggings and wear a dress over them!! But I agree with CarolinaM – it’s always nice to have a pattern!

I like the jeggings, but i would only wear it with something over it, like a dres, a miniskirt or a long shirt. I don’t think i am going to make my own, i can buy them for very little money, but i think it is good burda has a pattern for it.

I really like the look of Jeggings in principle, however RTW versions I’ve tried are always waaay too tight on my calves – and going up a few sizes means they are huge on the waist/hips on me.

Therefore, making some of my own is a great idea :)! (I already have the Carol legging pattern so I’m half-way there already LOL!).

QUESTION: Does anyone have any good (UK) sources for denim-look jersey fabric to make these in please? I guess they’d need to be fairly thick/heavy so as not to wear out to quickly?

    Many thanks, Claire
