Always a heated topic, the fashion industry’s minimal use of realistically proportioned models creates an ongoing discussion…

I was looking on the Refinery 29 site today and saw a post about the growth of blogs directed towards the more generously proportioned fashion lovers.

Some valuable tools these blogs offer are fashion resources and tips for full figured women. These blogs are not much different, nor should they be, from any other fashion or style blog, except for the fact that they portray women with curves in a refreshing way while offering style tips to incorporate these key pieces in your own wardrobe. You’ll see collages of trends for instance, and the model pictured will be in the larger size range. Realistic attire for the modern woman.

Here’s a list of the top plus size blogs being talked about (and please don’t be offended by their play on words, these blogs are out to make nice!)

Another great resource is the Fatshionista blog, which is a mix of fashion stuff and social/political commentary, and the Fatshionista flickr group where people post pictures of the outfits that they wear. I love browsing through the flickr stream to get ideas for cute outfits!

Loved this post! Where I come from almost every girl who doesn’t look like Barbie is considered “chubby” and undesirable. Well, I’m not a “plus size” but one way or another I just hate the concept that one has to be (too) skinny to be beautiful.

Thanks alison. I shall add these blogs to the list of sewing and fashion blogs on the fabrics international wiki site in a special section for plus fashion blogs (or “curvy fashions” as Vogue calls them!).
