Shake up the winter blues with these candy colored designs. Bright, minimalist patterns like a layered tank and pretty dresses are sure to boost your mood. These patterns are from the April 2012 issue of Burda Style magazine.

This minimalist Layered Tank gets interest from layered fabrics in different textures. Dress it down with leggings or get a sophisticated look with skinny trousers.

You’ll want to wear the Featherweight Dress on a romantic date or an event where you want to show off your flirty side. A loose cowl neck and flutters at the side seam are so feminine and light.

This Short Sleeved Bolero is great for taking the chill off indoors, or covering up a skimpy dress at work or a formal event. Elegant topstitching adds structure.

A clean and simple cut is perfect for a shiny fabric with some body. These trousers have a hiphugging fit without a waistband or pockets, so you get a streamlined shape.

Flirt away in this mini skirt and top with dramatic fluttery sleeves. The Gathered Sleeve Top has an hourglass cut for a nice fit and lots of gathers at the shoulders, and the skirt has horizontal darts to hug your waist and hidden pockets.

Breeze through transitional weather in this lightweight Windbreaker. A simple shape with no collar shows off the interesting cut of the sleeves. Jacket has a hidden zip and pockets.

Switch up your party look and pair this Strapless Jumpsuit with a shrunken blazer and heels.

This poppy U Neck Dress is pretty and feminine for all occasions. The deep scoop neckline is lovely for showing off jewelry, so pick a fun necklace to go with this classic dress. Darts flatter your bust.

Make a dramatic entrance in this brightly colored Cape Vest with flowing lapels.

Stand out at your next dinner party in a pop of color or shiny hiphugging pants. It’s a wonderfully unexpected look for fall, and you can wear these pieces through the spring!

Happy sewing!

I made the double—layered tank, twice, out of self-dyed silk vevets ordered from Thai Silks. Here are my reviews with photos,

Nice Spring/Summer patterns, not exactly what I’m looking to sew for the Fall/Winter – this is the only time I get to whip up some warm plush pieces.

I made the Cape Vest out of a purple silk/rayon. It is fabulous and can be worn dressy or casual, day or evening.

Question: with this pattern you say that sleeves can be added to turn it into a jacket. I am not very successful at improvising. Which other pattern sleeves can I use that would work?

Thanks Burda for all your wonderful patterns and for continually changing your site with new and sometimes older patterns.
