Take in the summer sun in a draft-it-yourself maxi skirt, harem pants, drawstring shorts, and ruched tunics. The warm orange and pink palette will have you reaching for the sunblock and sangria. These designs are from the May 2010 issue of Burda Style magazine.

Pass the pina coladas, because this Tiered Maxi Dress is made for lounging at the beach. It’s so summery with a racerback bodice, empire waist, and tiers of ruffles.

Sporty, sexy and stitched up quickly— these Drawstring Shorts are a must have! Elastic in the waist is a cute and practical detail for a good fit.

The ideal Ruched Tunic Top for beach parties with an airy shape and deep V neckline. It’s cinched with smocking at the waist for a flattering silhouette. Perfect with summery shorts or as a beach cover up.

The trend is back! These Harem Trousers are ultra comfortable for lounging, but the silhouette also works for a night out with a strappy tank and heels. This style is low rise with a tie at the hip.

This full Color Block Maxi Skirt has plenty of drape and swing. It’s a quick make with an elastic waistband and plenty of romantic style. Even better, it’s a super easy draft-it-yourself pattern!

Cover up your bikinis and sundresses with a casual Long Sleeve Blouse. This design has a stand up collar and ruffles at the front and back yoke. It’s a little bohemian with bloused sleeves.

Peasant style goes modern in the A Line Tunic Dress, with a bib neckline and bright orange poplin. A decorative loop closure and pintucks adorn the top, and wide pleats accentuate the skirt.

This Skirt has a unique take on the drawstring waistband that only cinches at the front. The knee length hem and big pockets are worry free for lazy days.

This collection has laid back style and eye catching color. Why not bring these fun pieces on a warm weather vacation? They’re comfy and chic, perfect for a Greek island or backyard fiesta.

Happy sewing!

Have you checked Ebay for back issues? I have even bought in german ( from Germany) since it is pretty easy to work out construction even if you do not know the language. Also many of the patterns are on the UK Burda site where you can still download english instructions.

Whoah. Brilliant collection, right up my alley! A-line tunic has a little Scandinavia about it, I think that will be first through the machine, it’s wearable for autumn/winter here in Australia too. Thankyou and kudos to the designers!

There are some cute patterns in this issue – I reviewed this a little while ago… Love the drop crop pants (although I know they’re not for everyone!), and the tiered dress. http://veryvintagevixen.wordpress.com/2013/07/28/burda-style-may-2010/

J’adore the dog! Looks like a pointer, and they’re always handsome. Like the skirts, too. Clever Burda. Also was looking for the white tops from the dog photo and the shorts photo. lincatz, I like your ideas on the dress: how did it turn out?

All great, especially the colors that pop, but harem pants only look like soggy diapers to me, and I’ve yet to see a woman wearing them who didn’t look like she was counting the minutes until she could get back home, take them off and hide her head in embarrassment. Harem pants never took off in 2010 and I’m assuming that they never will.

The blouse would also look great in a light blue chambray with a tan!

I really like the skirt with pockets. What a lovely photo of the lady with the dog. Nice story board.

I love the pink maxi dress and the Ruched tunic top. I think the tunic would look even better made from a sheer summer print fabric rather than a solid and embellishments added to the neckline, on the print fabric and maybe some fancy thread or beads enhancing the smoking. I’m wondering if the smocking could be worked by hand with fancy threads rather than with shirring elastic? hmmm -must experiment… I think I might try the dress with a stretchy t-shirt like fabric for the bodice and a fancier woven fabric for the skirt. The neckline again would be easy to embellish with beads, sequins, stretch lace and more. OOOO!!!! I have some summer weight printed and solid silk/cotton blend fabric in my stash! Perfect for these! I know what I’m doing this weekend!
