This colorful striped dress is airy and so feminine and now remastered from the original pattern published in 1961! The width is drawn in at the upper neckline with mini pleats and is shaped at the waistline with a self-made belt to bring it toward the figure.

July Retro Dress OLD BURDA
Original style and cover from burda moden 6/1961

How is the perfect holiday dress put together? In this case we would say it would have a breezy cut that isn’t too snug, though one that can be drawn toward the figure with a belt…one that lays in mini pleats tucked into a neckline band that also is constructed to be the dress straps. Of course, one that is sewn with a fabric that is wrinkle-resistant in a cool stripe design – that can survive in the travel case without trouble because I think we can all agree that a holiday should not include a lot of ironing duties.

July Retro Dress PATTERN

Perhaps most importantly, we want our holiday dress to easily be comfortable enough for cocktails, for dinner and for time to sit on the shoreline. This dress is also easy to style and accessorize: a pair of flat sandals and a bag for shopping in the city; alone as a cover-up at the beach; and evenings with sexy sandals and striking jewelry to shine. Time to start! The holidays will be here before you know it…

Style this dress for your work day with a biker jacket like this one, a stylish pair of loafers and then all you’ll need is your morning latte!

July Retro Dress COZY CHIC

Perhaps it’s a cool summer night, but you still want that fashion style – try pairing with a fun matching cardigan like this ruffled one and a sultry pair of strappy heels to complete the look.
