A biker jacket, a shift dress and a long waistcoat…these are some great wardrobe pieces from the 08/2017 issue of BurdaStyle magazine that you can rely on. We give them a stylish makeover – with leopard prints, exposed zippers and cool imitation leather.

Cool and oh-so-hot! The leopard print is all it takes to add a modern twist to this hip-length biker jacket. Classic details – the standing collar, exposed zippers, as well as patches at the shoulders and sleeves – are included, naturally.

The wide belt and the colour coordinated buckle are elegant touches to the raised waist cut. The zipper along the side panel seam can open from the hem to the waistband – a great accent to this swinging A-line design.

An edgy update for everyday outfits! The yoke and sleeves of this shirt are sewn with a washable faux leather and decorated with metal eyelets and trim along the edges. The exposed and topstitched zipper closure isn’t only comfortable and sporty. It is also easy to sew. If you would like, you could use a petersham with eyelets rather than the leather (add it before you finish the edges!)

Here is your perfect style for the changing seasons: Gold-toned zippers and a soft beige imitation suede keeps the masculine vibe of the design – great to pair with classic business wear. Those who prefer to sew with real leather should bring along the pattern pieces when purchasing the leather as the skins can have variances to work around.

The zipper details of this jacket are repeated with the skirt, as well, for an updated two-piece skirt suit option. A basic shirt works, as well, and especially when the zipper is left open a bit to highlight the godet panel detail.

The teardrop shaped cutouts at shoulders and the wide bands at the neckline and waist are simply uncomplicated, yet so sophisticated. This practical style surprise: Deep pockets at the hip yoke on the skirt.

A 60s style dress in an A-line cut gets a modern flair. The decorative metal zipper at the neckline slit of the knee-length dress can be adjusted to fit the occasion.

Lighter than a blazer and more stylish than a tank top. This lined long waistcoat features an open front and XL-snaps. It comes together with a belt. Two one-sided slits at either side of the seam joints leave freedom to move and is sure to be a quick favourite when sewn in this popular camel color.

Is your closet filled with sheath dresses? Then this version in the two-piece look will give you a beautifully modern one to add. Sexy cutouts drape the shoulders – though they still manage to be modest enough for the office. The fabrics for the bodice and skirt are easy-care washable and wrinkle-free polyester for an option you will reach for often.

This leopard print waistcoat with the welt pockets and petersham belt gives a lightning quick style update to plain outfits. Style tip: Add at brooch at the upper edge of the draped front collar to wear it closed at the neckline.

Rock on Burda! Some great choices for figures that gravitate between curvy and fluffy. Plenty of opportunity to customize and alter. I can’t wait to give these a try. The biker jacket looks like it would make for an interesting challenge to convert to a leather pattern.
