DEADLINE EXTENDED: Enter by May 22 11:59 EST. We have an exciting new contest series for our members to participate in, and it is open to everyone! As you may or or may not know we are starting to release these exclusive new designer-esque patterns previously only available in older issues of the German edition of burda style magazine. These patterns only have a sketch as the pattern’s preview image, and this is where we NEED YOUR HELP!

We are kicking off the contest series with our new designer style pattern the Pleated Designer Dress, you can read more about the pattern here as well.

So what we need from our talented member sewers is to make this dress pattern, photograph it, and upload to BurdaStyle.com. Then if YOUR dress project is chosen, YOU get to be the face of this BurdaStyle.com exclusive pattern! Your dress will appear as the main image for the pattern in our pattern store and we will link to your member profile in the pattern description. Inspire other members to make this pattern as well!

I just realised I posted as a a normal post and not a question! I have bought the pattern and it calls for a concealed zip. Is this obligatory or can I use a normal zip? I live in Rwanda and can’t get concealed zips here! (Also – can people do more than one entry?). Thanks!

I’m sure a regular zipper will be fine. In fact, I can see using an exposed metal zipper as part of the design, for instance, make the dress in white lightweight twill and add an exposed brass zipper…

Quick question…people who have made this seem to have used a concealed zip. Is this obligatory or can I use a normal zip? I live in Rwanda and can’t get concealed zips here! (Also – can people do more than one entry?). Thanks!

Can I add a center front seam? I have a striped fabric that I want to use and a center front seam would really play it up…

Well, I was nearly fooled. This is a clever ploy to get members to buy a pattern they otherwise wouldn’t, (because it has no photo) effectively paying 6 bucks for an entry into a competition where you win nothing.. oh, sorry, your photo on the pattern listing… woopdy-doo!. So win-win for burda, a whole lot of people pay for the pattern, and they get a new photo without spending a dime (actually making money on it) making it more appealing to people to buy the pattern. Hmm.. It would be another thing if you offered the pattern for free for a limited time burda, or at least a discounted price for the competition.

For me, the bragging rights is worth six bucks! :)

I agree with YOU in one thing! It can be a way from Burda to sell their pattern but I think ITS the smartest way to do it! As for the payed Money… 6 $ are nothing compare with the value of what YOU winn! Simbolic winning, that I think it cant be valued in Money and ITS more value than Money or material things! The chance to Participate to a contest ITS great! The change to chalange your Sewing skills comparing with others can only lead YOU to wanting more from your skills-Sewing and presentation! I think ITS so much more to winn than to lose!

I agree that it seems unfair that Burda is getting a free model photo without having to pay for a model or photographer or location while making money selling the pattern. I think that in addition to winning bragging rights and your photo as the official photo for the pattern, the winner should receive a gift certificate for Burda patterns or maybe to a fabric store like Mood. Prizes like that still wouldn’t cost Burda money out of pocket since they can get donated prizes from other companies for promotional consideration.

I own the Burdastyle magazine with this pattern. Do I really need to purchase it again through your pattern store to be eligible to join this contest?

Oh, how exciting! One question: are we allowed to change the length of the dress? I would love to raise the hem a bit, but I’m not sure does that counts as construction change?
